Stephanie Gestier
Stephanie was born on 12th March 1991 at Mona Vale in Sydney. Steph was having such a good time inside kicking up a storm and hiccupping that she was born 10 days late.  At birth she was described as a long normal thin female and she never changed from that.

She was a student at Wattleview Primary School. When she left in Grade 4, she came home with her school T-Shirt signed with many signatures of her friends. She kept that T-shirt. Friends were very important to her. At Wattleview we saw her creative flair coming out. She would bring home paintings and drawings that she had done that day. The knack for drawing carried over to before and after school care, where she would want to be there especially early so she could get a seat at the drawing table.

Being so creative I often consulted with Steph on matching colours and patterns when building our house. Her dress sense differed to ours. She considered that Phil and I dressed like “Hill Billy’s”. Growing in her teens buying clothes from Target and Big W was a no no and no longer acceptable.

From an early age Steff was very meticulous, even in keeping her room tidy she would put all books in height order and her beanie bears would be in neat sitting positions. Once whilst I visited the doctors, Steph decided to tidy up the chairs so they were all lined up and made the magazines look neat. Steph loved to read and it was not uncommon for her to come back from the library with 7 or 8 books.

Steph had her fair share of accidents. She once put a bead in her ear, which had to be removed by general anaesethic the next day. Another time she got her scooter and rode it down a steep hill and into a tree. She didn’t even cry and had the lump the size of an egg on her forehead. You should of seen the looks we got when we took her to the hospital.

Steph was not very good at keeping secrets. On one occasion I was making a cake for Steph to take to School. I being my usual clumsy self spilt half the ingredients on the kitchen floor and put them back into the cake. When Phil came home from work Steph was so excited she could hardly talk and told him the whole story. Another time Phil was driving her to tutoring and had a minor accident. As soon as she got home and even before Phil got out of the car she told me about it.

Steph shared a very close relationship with her grandparents and loved to visit them in Sydney. She loved to go and we loved to send her and they loved to have her and it was a good all around arrangement. She was a real little jet setter. When Steph came back from visiting she would usually have a cold sore, due to the grandmother wearing the granddaughter out by taking her everywhere including bush walks, trips to the beach, to the Easter show.

Steph went with us to New Zealand and the Gold Coast. At Movie World Steph would ask me to first go on Lethal Weapon before she would venture on. Like her me and her grandmother Steph had a love of animals and was constantly surrounded by guinea pigs, ferrets, rabbits, dogs, cats, chickens, rats, and other birds. She fed all the animals at home and was delighted when she got her own cat. She fed it and it would sleep with her on her bed. She would have her arms wrapped around it. The only drawback was that the cat used Steph's room as a food pantry, or maybe she thought Steph needed more food. The cat would bring her possums, birds, mice and rats. Once she came running out of her room and said “Mummy, there is a possum in my room and it doesn’t have a head”.

As Steph became a teenager she grew quickly overtaking me in height and eating food faster than I could buy it. Steph and I would often eat a chocolate cake in one sitting. Steph enjoyed cooking and would often ask if she could cook dinner. We never said no.

Steph loved watching the funniest home videos and Home and Away. I would love hearing her funny laugh during the funniest home videos. Sometimes she would laugh so hard at things that she could hardly stand up.

We would often hear Steph thumping around in her room practicing for a dance which she did at Upwey High School. She then begged me to put it on YouTube, and it is still there.

Steph loved taking photos and loved having photos taken of herself. She was well versed in Photoshop. She loved her digital camera and took it everywhere. I told her quite often how good she was and strongly encouraged her in this hobby. She wanted to be a photographer when she left school and did media in Year 11. On one occasion she was interviewing Phil for an assignment and told him to talk faster.

Steff had a big smile and I always loved to see it. We will miss that smile and much more of Steph. She was only with us a short time but left us with so many memories, which we as her family and friends will carry with us for the rest of our lives.  We still find it hard to believe that she is gone.
Your Mum and Dad love you very much.
